Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL): Buttock Augmentation with Fat Transfer

Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) is a specialized fat transfer procedure that enhances buttock size and shape using your own fat tissue rather than implants. This technique creates natural- looking results while improving overall body contours through strategic liposuction and fat grafting. A skilled cosmetic surgeon can improve proportions of the entire lower body helping a patient lose fat in common problem areas while augmenting the buttocks with long-lasting results.

A patient may be interested in BBL surgery to:

    • Enhance lower body curves without the use of implants
    • Reduce fat pockets on the hips, thighs, or abdomen while adding fullness to the buttocks
    • Enhance overall proportions by improving balance between the upper and lower body

    Who performs BBL surgery?

Brazilian butt lift surgery is a complex procedure demanding a skilled plastic surgeon with extensive training and experience in fat transfer techniques and a highly-developed eye for aesthetic detail.

    What happens during BBL surgery?

A Brazilian butt lift is a three-step surgical procedure. First, excess fat is removed from areas as the abdomen, flanks, and/or thighs with liposuction. This harvested fat is then carefully purified and prepared for transfer. Lastly, the extracted fat is strategically injected into specific areas of the buttocks to enhance shape and volume.

The procedure is performed under general anesthesia and typically takes several hours. Provided post-procedure instructions are followed, patients usually resume light daily activities within one week after surgery. Compression garments in addition to modifications to normal sitting as well as lying directly on your buttocks are necessary for additional time (up to about 8 weeks) to protect transferred fat. Results are usually final within 6 months of surgery after residual swelling has gone away and healing is complete.
