    Neck Rejuvenation (Lower Rhytidectomy)

A neck lift is a cosmetic surgical procedure that involves tightening the neck muscles and removing excess skin around the jaw line to create a smoother, more defined neck contour and youthful aesthetic. Neck rejuvenation is commonly performed as part of a facelift.

    Neck rejuvenation can improve:

    • Excess or sagging neck skin
    • Weakened or separated neck muscles (platysma)
    • Poor definition of the neck and jawline

Neck lifts can be performed with several different methods. The method used depends on the patient’s anatomy, skin quality/flexibility, and overall treatment goals.

    • Liposuction: a small incision behind each ear and under the chin allows insertion of specialized equipment to suction fat from behind the jawline and beneath the Liposuction is ideal to achieve enhanced neck definition but does not address structural problems that may contribute to neck appearance.
    • Anterior Neck Lift: a small incision under the chin allows insertion of surgical tools to contour and reposition tissues that shape the neck
    • Extended Neck Lift: usually combined with a facelift, incisions under the chin, in front of the ears, and along the hairline are used to contour and reposition deep structural tissues as well as remove excess fat in the neck and lower face
    • Z-plasty: involves direct removal of large amounts of excess skin

    What happens during neck rejuvenation?

Procedures are performed under general anesthesia. The length of the procedure depends on the type of neck lift. Most patients return to normal activities with a few weeks provided post-procedure supportive care measures are followed. A neck compress may be advised to promote compression, reduce swelling, and help with healing. Swelling and bruising are common after the procedure with final results become apparent as swelling resolves, typically within six months to a year.
